Unbox the Room

Unbox the Room is a simulation game built around unpacking your belongings and settling them into a new home. This is a game that follows a woman through several moves between 1997 and 2018. Every room hands you another stack of boxes to open, and each box carries small details about the stage of her life at that moment.

Start With the Boxes

Unbox the Room starts each room with cardboard boxes scattered around the space. Click a box to take an item out, then move that item around until you find a sensible place for it inside the room.

The objects you unpack are familiar household items. Books belong on shelves, clothes could go into drawers or wardrobes, and kitchenware must stay in the kitchen. You can arrange plenty of things your own way, but each item still has to sit in the right area.

Unbox the Room has no countdown, so there is no reason to rush. Look over the room, check what you have already unpacked, and work out where every object fits.

Check Your Arrangement

When you believe the room is done, Unbox the Room checks your work. Any item sitting in the wrong place will glow red. Pick that item up and move it somewhere more suitable. This is a simple way to spot anything you missed. You never have to guess whether the room is complete, since the misplaced objects are pointed out for you right away.

Discover the Story

The rooms move through different years, starting in May 1997 and running forward to 2018. The objects change as the woman's life changes, and her belongings carry part of the story. A room can show what she likes, what she needs, and how her situation has shifted without pausing the game for long explanations. Try to pay attention to the objects, because they give each room more meaning.

Game Experience

Unbox the Room stays quiet and unhurried. There are no scores, no enemies, and no time limits. Most of the work is simply opening boxes and deciding where the things inside belong.

Little sound effects give every room extra character too. Books, ceramic items, and clothing all make different noises when you handle them. Once the final misplaced object is sorted out, the room feels complete and ready for the next move ahead.
